Will someone turn on a light?
It was much simpler back in the NLR days . . (that stands for no lighting required)

I recently got to use some fake flames: VEI’s Vulcan’s Fire. We got the pedestal ones. I was very happy with the look of the flame, and it made very little fan noise. The video shows a few second and you can hear the fan from about 10 feet away.
Personally, if we had had time, I would have made a period looking pedestal. The pedestal base is about 6 feet high and is sturdy. I wanted the hanging lights, but these worked well on stage. It consists of two flame shaped silks, and three halogen lights all over a small fan.
They had sufficient brightness that with all the lights in the auditorium on, the flames still showed up well. In the dark they offered a great look and feel.
I would recommend the lights. The bowl is about 14″ across, and the flame about a foot high. I would recommend getting replacement halogen lights and keeping them on hand, because the silks are white, so with no light, not useable.
