Starting “venting”

Can you give me some ideas of where to find information and assistance in becoming a ventriloquist?

Once you start researching ventriloquism (especially on-line) you will see there is no shortage of DVD courses, books and blogs. I started “Venting” about three years ago. I took a DVD course by Lee Cornell (http://www.ventriloquism 101.com ). There is always the tried and true Maher Home Study Course (http://www.dummyworks.com/mahercourse.htm ) that is another great choice. I have been to quite a few Ventriloquist Conventions and I would say that a good percentage of the people have “Graduated” from the Maher Home Study Course. Check them both out they are both great choices. Margaret/Orlando, FL

If you are just getting started in Ventriloquism I want to make a suggestion to you. DO NOT SPEND A LOT OF MONEY ON YOUR FIRST FIGURE. I made that mistake. I purchased the standard little boy dummy hard figure with all the bells and whistles, moving eyes, winkers, blinkers, raising eyebrows. It was overwhelming to me. I ended up trading it for a soft figure with no extras.

It was hard enough just to learn to have the figure talk in synch, pronounce all the hard letters and words and come alive with movement without worrying about all the “inside” controls for winking, blinking, eye movement, etc. It was just too much to think about, I got overwhelmed and almost gave up.

If your dream was to use a hard figure, I will make this suggestion. Go ahead and purchase the one you want with all the movements. But while you are practicing ignore everything except the mouth and neck movement.
