A Tale from Pilate’s Wife

by Robert Alan Ward

“…I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him.” Matthew 27:19b

14 speaking parts, 9 men, 5 women, soldiers, crowd

Running time approximately 85 minutes

Pontius Pilate, his wife Procula, the centurion Petronius, the servant girl Rhoda, and Joseph of Arimathea all face a painful dilemma. What will they do about Jesus Christ? Each is backed into a corner and must decide for or against at great cost either way.
The historical “Standards” and “Aqueduct” affairs give insight into the pressures Pilate may have felt at the time of Jesus’ trial. The dream of his wife, surprisingly close to the truth, is re-enacted on stage. This tale of Pilate’s wife, told as a flashback by an aged Procula draws from the Scriptures, from contemporary historians, and from what the author would call plausible imagination to weave a powerful story that will leave audiences stunned and compelled to consider the claims of Jesus Christ.
