an interesting look at the beatitudes

The Beatitudes with an up to date outlook(?!)

Cast:

 1. The 'Still Small Voice'. Clear, but never raised.

2. Brash and confident, sometimes with a swagger.

Suggest 1 sits at back of stage, to one side, while 2 commands the whole of the front, striding about as necessary.

Sample of script

1. You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you, there is more of God and His rule.

2. Blessed are the self-assured who never get to the end of their tether, for they shall become important people.

1. You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.

2. Blessed are those with all their hearts' desires, for they will be comfortable.

1. You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are - no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

2. (Interrupting) Blessed are the bold and confident, for they will get what they ask for. (pauses) Blessed are those who search for happiness. . . . for they will(!)

1. You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He's food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.

2. Blessed are those who stand up against crime - hang 'em all, that's what I say!

1. You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being "care-full", you find yourselves cared for.

2. Blessed are those who look like decent people, for they will be thought well of.

1. You’re blessed when you get your inside world - your mind and heart - put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
