Narrator: It’s some night, ain’t it?
Yep, for sure is.
Reminds me some of that night back in ’46.
Can see it clear as if it was yesterday.
Old Tommy Mack he was there, drivin’ his old Studebaker.
Some car that, for a fact.
Yep, some car.
Bought that car brand new from old Bill Armstrong.
Talk is he got some sweet deal on that flashy Studebaker.
About this time of year he bought it, I reckon it was . . .
Maybe a little later in the year, don’t recollect exactly . .
Could’a been maybe in March . .
Or April . .

April: April love is for the very young
Every star’s a wishing star that shines for you
April love is all the seven wonders
One little kiss can tell you this is true

Narrator, chuckles:
Gotta tell ya, old Tommy Mack he was some proud of that sweet Studebaker!
Why if there was so much as a smudge or speck of dust on that Studebaker why there would be Tommy out there, cleanin,’ polishin.’
Some folks said that car was an obsession to Tommy . .
But, way I see it, nothin’ wrong in bein’ proud of a car, ‘specially of a car like that Studebaker!
Not only was that car a treat to the eyes, that car had some thunder under the hood I am here to tell you!
Tommy and the missus would pile into the Studebaker and down the street they would drive.
Heads turnin’ as they drove by . .
Gotta tell you, one look and, well, it was  . . . love!

Love: Love me tender,
Love me dear,
Tell me you are mine.
I’ll be yours through all the years,
Till the end of time.

Narrator: Not a man, woman or child in these parts didn’t know about old Tommy Mack’s Studebaker . . .
And they was purely envious is what they were.
More than one man tried to talk old Tommy into sellin’ his Studebaker!
But Tommy would have no part of that . .
The Studebaker was gonna stay put in Tommy’s garage, no doubt about that!
But that just made those fellas more anxious than ever to buy that car offa Tommy.
I tell ya, they would call . .

Call: I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
Baby of my heart.

Narrator: And they would call . . .

Call: I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
Baby of my heart.

Narrator: And call . .

Call: I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
Baby of my heart.

Narrator: And if it wasn’t one fella it was some other guy . .

Guy: Take this guy, this guy’s in love with you
Yes I’m in love, who looks at you the way I do?
When you smile I can tell
We know each other very well.

Narrator: Or some other guy . .

Guy: Take this guy, this guy’s in love with you
Yes I’m in love, who looks at you the way I do?
When you smile I can tell
We know each other very well.

Narrator: Old Tommy’s phone was ringin’ off the wall, folks seein’ if maybe Tommy would part with the Studebaker for a sweet price.
But Tommy he turned every one of them down, he’d have no part of it all.
(shakes head in disbelief)
You should have seen fellas, the way they felt about that Studebaker. . . .
No other way to say it . . .
The feelin’ was . . . love . . .

Love: Love me tender,
Love me dear,
Tell me you are mine.
I’ll be yours through all the years,
Till the end of time.

Narrator: I know, I know what you’re thinkin’ . . .
Strange that the attraction was that strong . . .
But like I say . .
It was . . . love.

Love: Love me tender,
Love me dear,
Tell me you are mine.
I’ll be yours through all the years,
Till the end of time.

Narrator: And, like I say, it wasn’t just one guy . .

Guy: Take this guy, this guy’s in love with you
Yes I’m in love, who looks at you the way I do?
When you smile I can tell
We know each other very well.

Narrator: No siree! . .
Always someone who’d call . .

Call: I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
Baby of my heart.
