actor comes on stage
When all is said
The pistol sounds and hearts beat fast,
We do our best, we strive to exceed
The mark set by some faceless former achiever.
Training and preparing, always striving
To be the fastest, the strongest, the most fit.

In some dusty, frayed old record book.
