Sarah was patient, however having Hagar inhabiting her home was a horrible happening.
Hagar, the other woman, (and other concubine), in Abraham’s life, made things difficult even for a very patient lady. It just all seemed so wrong that, in spite of God promising that Sarah would give Abraham a child, it was Hagar who first produced a son. And with Ishmael running around in Sarah’s house things got a bit tense.
But God made good on his promise, Sarah did discover she was going to have a son with her husband Abraham. In the process she did have her faith tested.
As Christians are commanded to trust in the Father and await on Him, some have difficulty differentiating their own time and God’s time.

Sarah, obviously very nervous, Good day. Thank you all for coming here. I invited you here so you could better understand the reasoning for my actions. I know there has been great talk about me all over town in regards to recent (pause) events. And before anymore of you make anymore jokes or laugh at me as I pass by, I want you to know that this was not according to
my plan!

Sarah looks across “crowd,” waves at couple of people, stops at a person, points

 You, there. With the long coat. I do not recognize you. Are you new here?

(pause)

Oh, you don’t know why we are all gathered here?
Well, you are sure to find out about me sooner or later, so I’d rather tell you now so you get the facts straight.

My name is Sarah, and my husband is Abraham. I’m sure you know Abraham – he is a very powerful man. God had truly blessed us with much. Everything we could have wanted. Everything, that is, except a son. Oh, how I wanted a son for Abraham! I prayed and prayed for years that God would grant us my prayer. God promised me He would bless us with a son, but it would be in His time.

His time – that’s the part I had trouble with. I was grateful to God for listening to my heart and understanding the deep need I had to have a son.
But I couldn’t fathom waiting any longer. I knew of a way to get my son without having to wait on God.

I decided I would get Hagaar to lay with Abraham and become pregnant with my son. My plan worked! All was going well. Except on into Hagar’s pregnancy, I began to have trouble looking at her. I had such mixed feelings – I was excited that she was to give birth to our baby, but at the same time I couldn’t help feeling tremendous hatred for Hagar.

Why could she have a baby and I could not? Before long, these feelings of hatred overpowered the feelings of excitement about the baby. I was consumed by anger! I was angry at Hagar for carrying my child, and I was angry with Abraham for agreeing to this plan in the first place. I decided to once again take matters into my own hands. After all, it worked the first time, right?

I became very cruel to Hagar. She could no longer take the hatred I had for her, so she left – she ran off into the desert. All I could think of was that all of this ordeal would be behind us forever. After all, the child Hagar was carrying wasn’t mine, so why should I feel any sort of love toward him?
