When conducting DramaShare workshops on location one of the most common problems identified is that of the lack of planning for upcoming performances, allowing time for the preliminaries: finding the right script, getting approvals from the pastor, finding the right actors and offstage personnel, providing skills training and assuring all persons are clear on the plans, the timing, the availability of all who need to be at rehearsals and what the rehearsals will be all about. All this and more essential to maximize the ministry potential of Christian drama, and to make it a productive, God-honoring experience for organizers, participants and all who are spectators to the finished product.
Virtually all agree more planning and preparation is required but exactly how do we plot out a plan and a timetable when using amateur volunteers. A breakthrough happened when a long established church client put the need into a clear statement:

“What we need is a kind of “countdown of all that needs to happen, at the time it needs to happen, from concept to conclusion.”

A group of us got together to identify steps needed to happen in the process.

From these discussions, and also from personal experiences, we found a great need for 52 actual concise yet precise steps along the way. And from this arose . . . Drum roll please . . .

    Countdown To CurtainUp

The purpose behind this manual, as the title infers,  is a “Countdown to CurtainUp”, a step by step look at what needs to go into creating a drama which is not only successful, not only well accepted by the congregation, not only pleasant and motivating to the cast and crew, but is also God-honoring, a good and righteous offering to our God.

We trust that this manual will provide the framework for an improved preparation and rehearsal schedule in your church.
